SYL/DAMAGED/SEGRESSION/LINEDRIVER - 25/10/98 (u-18s arvo show)
Review by Kev Truong
whoa holy shit man, yesterday arvo was absolutely killer!!!!! syl totally
brought the goddamned walls down, it was sooo awesome! for most of the
concert i was standing RIGHT in front of the stage, yknow the barrier that
keeps the crowd away from the stage right? well i managed to get past that
and was standing almost 2-3 feet away from the band!! the security guy
just let us stand around the sides, but just made sure the middle was free
so he could catch crowdsurfers :) sorry i couldnt get any photos, camera
was being fixed :( also i looked around and couldnt see anyone bootlegging
it *double :(
anyway heres how the show went:
it was sposed to start at 2, but for some reason it was late. so at
bout quarter to 3 they finally let us in. the support bands were linedriver,
segression and damaged (not dreadnaught as i had heard before).
linedriver was first. they played a short 3 song set, but they had a
really heavy groove thing happening. they had 2 singers and really got
the crowd going. next was the hatecore band damaged. with a new singer
and bassist they had a really loud and intense set. they played mostly
old stuff, the only one i recognised was token remedies research. next
were the mighty segression from wollongong. after a bit of time setting
up they went straight into it, playing the first 4 songs of their latest
album PLUS one hell of a stuck mojo cover. they also had a new drummer
that only joined a week ago, but he was pretty damn good!! they also had
a pretty wicked light show happening.
finally the awesome SYL came on stage. they went straight into an awesome
set after a bit of setting up. heres what they played:
Velvet Kevorkian
All Hail the New Flesh
Home Nucleonics
Oh My Fucking God
Far Beyond Metal
SYL
Underneath the Waves
Spirituality/AAA
In the Rainy Season
Detox (not sure bout order)
it was the loudest most amazing show ever, with dev making some funny
comments like "so you like detox huh? well we'll play it later ya bastards!"
and "we havent slept in four days, and to cap it off, we got another show
tonight! *crowd cheers* yeah well its fun for you, but we're unfit, we're
Canadian! we're usually not moving!!".
all in all it was one amazing day with one especially amazing band :)
also i managed to grab a plectrum dev threw out! first he threw out
a water bottle, then when everyone started grabbing at it he said "now
now dont fight have some presents" and threw bout five in. :) also before
the gig a roadie threw some drumsticks in but i didnt get any
